Solar Return

Once a year, the Sun returns to the exact degree it occupied the moment you were born. That moment, your solar return, marks the turning of your personal year. The chart cast for that instant acts as a forecast for the twelve months that follow, a separate layer that sits on top of your natal chart and colours the tone of the year ahead. Some years are quiet. Some ask a great deal. A solar return reading tells you which kind of year is coming and what it is likely to be about.

I am Deaglán MacCanna, and I have been practising traditional astrology since 2013. A solar return reading is one of the more focused pieces of work I do, because the chart only covers a single year. That narrow window means the reading can get specific in a way that a natal chart cannot. Where your birthday chart falls, which houses it lights up, which planets it brings to the foreground, all of it points to the themes that will dominate the next twelve months. A year that activates your seventh house will be lived very differently from one that activates your tenth, and knowing that in advance lets you lean into the year rather than be caught by it.

The reading is most useful a few weeks either side of your birthday. Some clients order it as a yearly ritual. Others come to it only when they feel a significant year approaching, a milestone birthday, a career change in the air, a relationship at a turning point. Either way, the chart gives you a map of the terrain ahead.

What you receive

• A hand-written Solar Return report, delivered as a PDF, covering the twelve months from your next birthday. The year’s themes are read against your natal chart so the forecast is grounded in who you actually are, not just what the sky is doing.
• Lifetime access to your personal astrology portal once you register. Your solar return details and every PDF report I have produced for you remain downloadable in the one place for as long as you need them.

A note on birth time

A solar return is only as reliable as the birth time it is built on. The angles of the return chart shift quickly with small changes in time, and a few minutes can move the year’s emphasis from one house to another. If you are confident of your birth time, you are ready to order. If you are not, I would strongly suggest a rectification reading before the solar return, so the forecast for your year is built on ground that will hold. This is particularly worth doing if this is your first reading with me, since the corrected time will then serve every reading that follows.
